CERF 2015 Mentorship Program

Great Opportunity to Connect with Conference Attendees - Sign up for the Mentoring Program at CERF 2015!

We will be offering an exciting opportunity for students and early career scientists attending the CERF 2015 meeting. The CERF 2015 Mentoring Program is designed for novice conference attendees, students, and early career scientists, in order to facilitate new connections that may lead to long-term professional relationships within the CERF community.

Mentees will be matched one-on-one with an experienced scientist to help them navigate the conference, network with conference attendees, and exchange feedback and ideas on professional activities and career development. In addition to being matched prior to the conference, a breakfast will be offered at CERF 2015 for all mentors and mentees, sponsored by CERF and the Affiliate Societies.

If interested, participants may sign up for the Mentoring Program when registering for the conference. If you have already registered for the conference and would like to participate in the mentor program, please contact the CERF office to update your conference registration selections. Mentors should be able to do the following:

• Contact your mentee at least one week before the meeting
• Discuss objectives for the meeting, for example: sharing science, networking, or career opportunities
• Meet your mentee in person at the beginning of the conference to get acquainted and make plans to achieve the desired objectives
• Introduce your mentee to 3-5 colleagues
• Meet your mentee in person for the Mentoring Breakfast on Wednesday morning at the conference (Nov. 11) to discuss the mentee’s progress toward achieving the mentee’s objectives
• Meet your mentee again at the end of the week, as necessary, to answer any remaining questions on additional steps the mentee might take to further meet their objectives or to reflect on the usefulness of the mentoring experience

Mentees should be able to do the following:

• Contact your mentor at least one week before the meeting
• Discuss objectives for the meeting, for example: sharing science, networking, or career opportunities
• Meet your mentor in person at the Mentoring Breakfast on Wednesday morning at the conference
• Participate in mentoring activities
• Approach your mentor with any questions or reflections on science sessions
