CERF Executive Director, Mark Wolf-Armstrong, to retire at end of 2015
At the Governing Board Meeting of the Coastal Estuarine Research Federation (CERF) on May 2, it was announced that Mark Wolf-Armstrong, Executive Director of CERF, will retire at the end of 2015.
In announcing his retirement, Mark said that “It has been a real privilege to serve as Executive Director of CERF. CERF has a remarkable volunteer culture. The Federation is a warm, welcoming and empowering community of great scientists and students. As I move into retirement, I will certainly miss the many CERF friends I have made during my tenure. The many things we have accomplished since I joined CERF is a reflection of the dedication and engagement of CERF members.”
Ken Heck, President of CERF, had this to say about Mark’s time as Executive Director, “Mark has made a lasting impact on CERF, moving the organization forward to ensure a sustainable future through many strategic initiatives. While we will greatly miss his impassioned leadership, I am confident we will have continued success and growth because of the programs, relationships and infrastructure he helped to develop.”
Mark came onboard when Walter Boynton was President. On hearing the announcement, Walter recalled, “Mark has left a very positive impression on CERF. Among other accomplishments, he navigated us through three biennial conferences and a new five-year contract with Springer, our publisher of Estuaries and Coasts, and led a reorganization of CERF’s Headquarters including bringing on SBI Management Services, an association management company, to manage day-to-day operations, finances and event management for CERF. We wish him well in retirement.”
The Governing Board has formed an exploratory committee to recommend a transition plan to the Governing Board.
