Rhode Island Marine Science Tour: Cutting Edge Oceanography Now and in the Past

Please join us on a tour of the Bay Campus, in Narragansett, RI, followed by a visit to Castle Hill, Newport the home of oceanography innovator Alexander Agassiz. The Bay Campus is the epicenter of marine science and education in Rhode Island. Overlooking the West Passage of Narragansett Bay, the Bay Campus is home to URI’s highly acclaimed Graduate School of Oceanography, one of the nation's top oceanographic institutions. The campus also houses NOAA's Northeast Fisheries Science Center’s Narragansett Laboratory and EPA’s Atlantic Ecology Division Laboratory, both conducting research on natural and anthropogenic stressors in the coastal ocean environment. The trip will include an overview of the ongoing research activities and tour of the facilities. After visiting the Bay Campus, enjoy a one-of-kind visit to Castle Hill, Newport where Alexander Agassiz wrote reports for the Challenger
Expedition in 1876. We will tour the main house, visit an out building that served as a lab, and view some of Agassiz's artifacts.

Bus transportation and a box lunch are included and the tour will return in time for participants to have dinner prior to the Keynote Presentation.
